AC Issues
AC IssuesWhat Phoenix homeowners should know when the summer heat pushes an AC system to its limits.
Yes, an AC unit can overheat, and Phoenix summers can put tremendous stress on cooling equipment. But a properly operating system is designed to run in extreme heat. If yours is overheating, shutting down, tripping a breaker, or struggling to keep up, there’s usually an underlying reason. Here’s what our Good Guys in Green look for.
Your AC works hard during a Phoenix summer, but heat alone usually isn’t the whole story. Restricted airflow, a dirty condenser coil, failing electrical components, motor problems, low refrigerant conditions, or other mechanical issues can cause components to run hotter than they should. The important part is figuring out why it’s happening instead of simply resetting the system and hoping it doesn’t happen again.
If a breaker keeps tripping, don’t continue resetting it. That’s the system telling you something needs attention.
Phoenix heat makes your AC work harder, but extreme temperatures don’t automatically mean something is wrong. On very hot days, systems may run for long periods and indoor temperatures can be harder to maintain, especially in homes with poor insulation, duct leakage or other efficiency issues. But repeated shutdowns, breaker trips, burning smells or other abnormal operation should be checked.

Don’t keep resetting a tripped breaker. If it trips again, leave it off and have the system checked.
